140 Words (more or less) About Pride

It’s Twitterific Thursday, where I write about a subject in 140 words more or less.

Sometimes pride comes before a great fall.  You and I  have experienced it.  Someone we know has a great amount of pride in their lives.  Maybe it’s you.  I know that I do on occasion.

Maybe, like me, you have been encouraged to take pride in yourself.  Maybe you have been encouraged to take pride in your work.  I don’t think this is something that we really have to enough pride in our lives.

I don’t think you and I are fundamentally that much different.  I have not met anyone yet who does not struggle with pride.

It’s the root of most of your sins.  It’s the root of most of your problems.  It’s the root of most of your issues.  It is the root of your personal conflicts.  It’s the root of most problems in your marriage.  I know because that’s the way it is for me.

Let’s battle the pride in our life?

I guess I could pick out specific verses that mention pride. But pride is not always what you see in issues. It’s the underlying, hidden issue. My thought is that you fill up on the word in general so that it crowds out other stuff. I don’t really go looking for verses. I look for ideas.

CS Lewsis said that one of the ways to conquer pride is to be just as proud of the achievements of others as we are of our own. Interesting advice, and very hard to do. Until we surrender our pride–cause we’re nothing without God.

Chad, I think it hearkens back to a couple of our posts. If we strive to live in submission and love with each other, it’s harder to live with pride. Of course, we could be come proud of that.

I believe one cannot truly enjoy life until his/her ego is extinguished.

In the past (recent past) I though I was humble, only to find that it was a false humility. Which is pride in disguise.

Sometimes one of the things I’m most proud of is my humility.
