What’s Your Story?
I would like to kick off February in two ways. I’m going to tell you a little about me. Then I want to know a little about you.
I’m 43 years old. I’m working on my twentieth year of marriage to my lovely wife, Jan. I have two outstanding kids, Lauren and Andrew, who will both be in high school next year. I came to know Christ when I was 25, even though I had been in church all of my life.
I surrendered to a call to ministry in 1999. I thought that meant I had to go to seminary and be a pastor. So, that’s what I did. I went to seminary for a year and then returned home. However, I never became the pastor I thought I would be.
Now, I preach in a campground from late spring through fall. I teach in church any time I can. We are also in the beginning stages in a new church. You can follow those adventures every Monday.
I love to write my blog and interact with all of you good folks who choose to visit Deuceology. I’ve made more mistakes than I care to admit while blogging. I love this community that I have become a part of in the blogosphere.
That’s my story.
Your turn.
What’s your story?
How much time do you have? I am 59. Been married to my college sweetheart, Jo, since 1973. That makes almost 39 years. Have 2 adult daughters: Tami (36) and Janna (32). One grandson. My mom says I have always talked about being a preacher. I can only remember wanting to be a baseball and then a basketball player. I started preaching in college and have known nothing else. Translated: I can do nothing else.
I pastor a church in central Indiana, and have for 6 years.
I just turned 40 in December. I married my first and only true love whom I met at Grove City College. We have two kids who are both in middle school. Christ has always been real to me (at least as long as I can remember).
By day, I’m an operations manager with an engineering degree. Blogging has definitely become a passion for me – especially over the past year.
This really only scratches the surface but it’s a start.
Awesome, Lindsey! I’ve bounced into Random Writers a couple of times. I’ll take a closer look. Thanks for sharing.
I am 56 years old and will have been married to my lovely and brilliant wife Melodi for 30 years in May. We have been blessed with four grown children (Jonathan, Joanna, Joelene, and Joel) and we have a grandson, Ty, who will soon be a year old. I am a follower of Jesus and grateful for the opportunity to serve Him as pastor at Lost Creek Friends in New Market. Our oldest son is also a pastor and serves at the Maryville Friends Meeting.
Christ spoke to my heart at age five and called me.into a relationship with him. At age six he called me to preach. As I have grown each of those callings have been repeatedly confirmed and strengthened.I began preaching (occasionally) at age 11 and regularly by age 17. At 20 I was called to my first church position as Assistant Pastor and have been ministering in some form or fashion ever since. My first 18 years I served with the Southern Baptists. Then 19 years ago, through an amazing series of circumstances our Lord called me to serve among the Friends (Quakers). I am what some would call bivocational, as my primary employment is as the school librarian at Austin-East High School in Knoxville. Interestingly enough, I do not have a seminary degree either, though I did take some coursework when Carson-Newman was serving for a time as a satellite location of Southern Seminary.
I have not yet taken up blogging, though I have been considering it for some time. I did have a book published a couple of years ago. I don’t know if blogging would enhance my focus on writing or prove to be a distraction, so I am enjoying reading other blogs (particularly Deuceology!) until I feel a clearness from our Lord as to his calling in that area.
David, that was awesome. Carson-Newman gets an uncredited mention tomorrow.
Cool idea, sorry I was so late getting around but I too was off work today and have just gotten on the computer. So my boring story:
48 years old, married to my high school sweetheart for 26 years, 2 kids in college – son is studying religion and debating preaching vs. teaching, daughter studying med. tech – I’ve taught the same adult SS class at church for the past 14 years. I’m a geek who enjoys learning from the rest of your blogs that I visit daily.
