First Church Year #24: Hot
This weekend was the hottest one on record for our area. Record temperatures for any day were met for East Tennessee. 105 degrees is not my idea of fun.
It would be easy to Jesus Juke the situation this week by saying something like, “It may have been hot this weekend, but not as hot as it will be for eternity for those who don’t know Christ.” However, I will refrain from doing anything like that.
It would be easy to stay home during extreme weather. Certainly none of us wanted to go out in the heat. However, a good number of us may our way to church today. I half expected tons of patriotic songs celebrating America. Instead we had one song promoting America and many more magnifying Christ.
Besides the heat, our pastor search team is heating up. They went out to parts unknown (I alway loved hearing about pro wrestlers from there as a kid) to listen to a prospective pastor.
Despite the heat, it was a good Sunday.
How was your Sunday?
My Sunday was great! (It was hot here in Eastern PA also.) Church was good, and I enjoyed a trip to my hometown in NJ to visit with friends.
My Sunday was good! I am in the choir and we gave a small patriotic presentation that honored both the country and God. It was downhill from there.
The the pastor got hung up on the latest supreme court decision and went off on a rant that cut the hearts of all of our veterens telling us our service to the country, 29 years for me, defending the constitution was helping our leaders wipe God from America.
I left after the service totally depressed.
He said you can’t serve God and your country both.
Walk daily with God at your side!

Ed, too many pastors seem to think they should be political activists in the pulpit rather than proclaimers of the Gospel of God. If pastors would focus on their call, maybe more believers would make a difference in our world and our country.
We had a good hot Sunday as well. Heard a fantastic message about dealing with difficult relationships. Pastor offered a new approach (atleast to me) to a popular topic.
Awesome Eileen! It’s great when we can learn to deal with each other in the Lord. We seem to get in our own way too often
