What Are You Dying To Do?

Today you are going to do something.  It may be something that is part of your normal routine.  You may be like me, getting ready to begin the first work day of the week.  Maybe you are already there, as one of my friend calls it, at the salt mines.

Later you will come home to fix dinner and maybe catch some TV before bed.  You might sit down and read a book.  Maybe you will play with your kids.

We’re all going to do something today.

But there is something else that we want to do.  Each of us have dreams and desires.  We may have a bucket list of things we want to do in this world before we die.

Here’s my question.

What are you dying to do?

The things you and I are doing are leading to death.

Maybe you are bored with your marriage and you are looking at porn.

Perhaps you are drowning your boring routine with drink after drink, trying to make yourself numb to your reality.

Could be that you are pursuing something that will fulfill you and satisfy a longing you have.

It could be ________ and it is leading you somewhere.  It is leading you to death.

Jesus flips the script on that.  Instead of ending with death, He begins with it.

“If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.”

Jesus begins with death.  He says that we must deny ourselves, take up the instrument of our death and follow Him.

Then He takes us to an ultimate marriage.

He gives us Living Water to drink.

He satisfies us with the Bread of Life.

We are all dying.  The question is are you dying to follow yourself?  Or are you dying to follow Him?

What are you dying to do?

Never thought to put it this way, but that is really good stuff right there! Thank God that we have the key to flip the script and walk toward life.

I think the original way I heard it was that viewing porn was actually suicide. In other words, you are dying to see it. One thought led to another…..

As they used to say in my seminary…that’ll preach!
