What Is The Gospel?

Often we get the idea from our pastors and churches that we should be sharing the Gospel.  This can be very intimidating for many of us, so the question that we really end up having to ask ourselves is what is the gospel?

Paul gives us the best definition of the gospel in 1 Corinthians 15.  It was the gospel handed down to him that he received.  It’s simple, which is what makes it so powerful.  Here’s my paraphrase of it.

Jesus died for my sins.  He was buried.  On the third day, he rose.  He appeared to Peter and then the other disciples.  Then he appeared to five hundred others.  Not only that, but He appeared to his brother James and to Paul himself.

That is what our faith hinges on.

Do you want to be born again?  This is what you put your faith and trust in.

Do you want to be justified by faith, as Paul teaches in his epistles?  You have to believe the Gospel.

Do you want to enter the kingdom of God?  The Gospel is the way.

How is this so?  It’s because Jesus Christ is the Gospel.

Without Jesus, we can’t do any of this.

Do you want to truly reach others and change them by their hearts changing?  The Gospel is the way.  Why?  Because Jesus is the way.

What is the Gospel?  It’s the most important question any of us can ask.

Do you know the Gospel in your life?

There are many nuances to the answer but a simple way for me is “the Gospel is the Good news of Jesus.” Like I said that needs to be opened up.

The gospel is receiving what Jesus did for me. Something I couldn’t do on my own. And then showing that type of love to others.
