Accountability On Account’a Booty

I was listening to a podcast the other day.  A couple of topics that came up were Master Mind and accountability groups.  Now, I’ve never participated in a Master Mind group and, to be honest, have never spent much time in any sort of formal accountability group.  However, I certainly like the idea of both.

What stood out to me was one comment during the discussion.  Why do we need accountability groups?  The answer given was on account’a booty.

I chuckled, as the comment was supposed to draw one from me, but I did more than that.  I thought about it.  And, yes, I know and knew that is the reason we, especially men, need accountability groups.

This wouldn’t and shouldn’t surprise us about those who do not follow Christ.  What about those of us who do follow Christ, though?

If we were honest with ourselves, we would admit that we are visual creatures.  We see something and want it.  We lust and desire.  We dwell on what we lust, desire and want.

And it’s easy to fall.

So, we need some accountability.  We need only to look at King David in the Bible, a man after God’s own heart, to see how easy it is to fall.  Even a king needs someone to hold him accountable, and if him, what about us?

So, find yourself to meet with regularly, especially if you’re a guy, to hold yourself accountable.  Ask each other tough questions.  Admit your faults and your weaknesses.  Give each other permission to be tough.  After all, we’re only talking about our souls.

Do you have someone who can hold you accountable?

Not as much as I’d like. We weren’t meant to live alone. We need one another.
